How Facebook Tests for Pregnancy

How Facebook Tests for Pregnancy

According to Facebook, the social network rarely uses the content of your status updates and wall posts to profile you. Facebook's paying advertisers tell a different story. Ad Age interviewed companies targeting pregnant women on Facebook. These marketers reported Facebook reps telling them that they can indeed identify their audience by targeting specific keywords that show up in users' conversations. Facebook's own Data Use Policy supports this version, stating that "key words from your stories" are used to deliver ads.

Pregnancy is an excellent example of a conversation topic that many users would prefer to keep private. Whether rarely used or not, Facebook is deciding when to read your posts and what to do with the information it gleans from them. Now Facebook users can make this decision for themselves. Installing scrambls keeps your Facebook posts private, preventing the content of your personal messages being used as a "signal" to advertisers.

Can You Afford Not to Tweet?

"Can You Afford Not to Tweet?"

According to a new study, "The Social Economy: Unlocking Value and Productivity Through Social Technologies," by McKinsey Global Institute, the adoption of social technologies could unlock $900 billion to $1.3 trillion in value. The report is based on an analysis of 4,200 companies. MGI estimates that two thirds of this value will be generated by "improved communications and collaboration within and across enterprises."

Today, a mere 5% of all communications and content use in the U.S. happens on social networks. MGI points out that almost any human interaction in the workplace can benefit from being "socially enabled," upgraded to the speed and scale of the Internet.

Creating a searchable record of internal communications and corporate knowledge has tremendous benefits for any corporation, but widespread adoption depends on the ability to create a trusted environment, one in which access to content is controlled, and company IP is safeguarded. Our team is using the combination of Yammer and scrambls to create just such a trusted environment for collaboration.

Mobile Enterprise: "Social Tool Allows for Tweet Encryption"

"Mobile Enterprise: "Social Tool Allows for Tweet Encryption"

Mobile Enterprise spoke recently with Michael Sprague, co-founder of scrambls, about the launch of scrambls social, our first mobile app: "It started with privacy. We asked, 'Can we encrypt Twitter and how can we go about that,'" Sprague said. "It then became about more than just privacy features; it became about control."

"Mobile app developers can use the scrambls social software development kit (SDK) to build their applications and sites with scrambls and enhance their privacy and security features in the process. Scrambls social also provides native apps in order to make the process of building scrambls-enabled apps easier."

Mobile Business: "Safety and Data Protection with Every Tweet"

Mobile Business features the new scrambls iPhone app, explaining that you "simply type in the tweets that you want to scramble. The service encrypts the message immediately, even before they are sent into the cloud. Only the select group of friends who are defined by the user on scrambls.com can read the posts then."
